TAKEAWAY: Once you create your entire presentation/pitch, identify the key slide which justifies your talk and make it your first slide.
If I look at the presentations I create, most of the slides are a build up to the key point I am trying to make, if it is for funding, a new product, a talk or a new system architecture.
Unless people care about the key point, they won't even pay attention to the other slides.
Therefore, make them care by giving them the punchline clearly in a way that matters to them.
In almost every VC presentation, the last slide say something like: "And we are looking for $5M with a pre money valuation of $25M to fund the creation of service X and to support growth over the next 12 months." By this point, the VCs are asleep (Yes, I have actually seen it happen).
In scientific presentations, it is the same way. The last slide gives the conclusion.
Why not start with the takeaway, and then, once everyone is hooked, explain how you got to it?
